This is a screen shot of an exchange between two scientists on Facebook:
The response was:
“Hehehehe……….Did they go to the Chemistry Hotel after that? I heard it has great day rates but even better nitrates…….;D”
The above interaction between two friends (one who is a doctoral candidate in Science Education and a chemist and the other who is a dermatologist and works in an Anshcutz Medical Center lab) is just one of the many ways I see humor, humility, and personal expression in science. It may not be communicated in conference presentations or peer-reviewed articles, but these little dialogues that occur in private are what gives the otherwise cool tones of science a warming glow around its edges.
